History
Established in 1984
In the mid 70's the Eastman Brothers; Bill, Dave and Jack began growing produce and selling door to door throughout the community. In the early 80's, their Uncle, John Ernest (Ernie) Eastman of Ovid, NY, continued the pumpkin roadside business with a self-serve wagon (which we still use today for displays) and the U-PICK!
After Ernie's retirement, his nephew David Eastman and wife Brenda (known to many as The Pumpkin Lady), took over the pumpkin operation. Together they added a small stand and this is how we got our name, “The Pumpkin Stand”!
In the late 90's, Dave and Brenda moved the stand from its location at the Eastman Homestead, up the road, to one of the family’s barns. The barn, in which we utilize today, was erected in 1868 by J.W. Wilson. Son of one of the first four settlers to Ovid, NY, Aaron Wilson of Wilson Road.
At the turn of a new millennium, came a new building! The “Stand” we use today sits on a foundation of an original structure at the historic site and recreated in its image (with exception to the porch). The original (now retired) stand sits behind the property, overlooking the family pond.
Today The Pumpkin Stand continues to grow with the Eastman family. Now operating under Dave and Brenda's youngest daughter Ellen and her husband Ryan Smith. Together (with the continued help of Brenda and the amazing team) they have incorporated a small corn maze, weekend hay rides and an annual Fall Festival, designed specifically to give back to the local community.
Together they're honored to keep the family’s legacy alive and continue to serve their loyal customers!
